Film: The Honeymoon Killers

The Honeymoon Killers, 1970 – Starring Tony Lo Bianco as Raymond Fernandez and Shirley Stoller as Martha Beck, the infamous “Lonely Hearts Killers” who murdered at least 12 women in the 1940’s. The movie is meant to be a true account put plays pretty loose w/ actual facts. It was done on a tight budget, orginal director Martin Scorsese was fired for working to slowly, and marketed as a simple exploitation feature. It recieved mostly good reviews, with Francois Truffaut calling it his “Favorite American Film”. The artwork for it is great, focusing on the overweight Martha – a brave thing to do for a 70’s explotation feature. It’s dark and dirty and cold, a perfect film for this time of year.
