Photography: James Mollison – The Disciples

Marilyn Manson

James Mollison was born in Kenya in 1973 and grew up in England. His work has been widely published throughout the world including  Colors, The New York Times Magazine, the Guardian magazine, The Paris Review, The New Yorker and Le Monde. Over three years he photographed fans outside different concerts. These photographs are from his 2008 book Disciples.  In James’ words – “I was fascinated by the different tribes of people that attended them, and how people emulated celebrity to form their identity. As I photographed the project I began to see how the concerts became events for people to come together with surrogate ‘families’, a chance to relive their youth or try and be part of a scene that happened before they were born”.
